The Nashik city is located in Maharashtra and is known as the wine capital of India due to the quantity of grapes production.

It is around 180 km from Mumbai and around 200 km from Pune. Located on the Western Ghats of Napa Valley. Nashik was formerly the capital of the Satvahna dynasty. During the 16th century, the city came under Mughal rule and was called Gulshanabad. After that it was with the Peshwas, who were defeated by the British at the end of the 19th century. Famous freedom fighter like Veer Savarkar hails from Nashik. It is said that Lord Rama lived in a place called Tapovan near Nashik during 14 years of exile. At this place Lord Lakshmana cut off the nose of Shurpanakha, and hence the place was named Nashik, which is a translation form of a nose.

Kalidas, Valmiki have also spoken of Nashik in his works. The famous philosopher of 150 BC, Plotemi also mentions Nashik. Nashik is currently one of the fastest growing cities in Maharashtra. Nashik has made considerable progress in infrastructure, education, industrial, and many other aspects.

Nashik - A sacred Dham Trimbakeshwar temple is only a few kilometers away from Nashik and is a major pilgrimage attraction. Mukti Dham is one of the four Jyotirlingas in India. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar followed the same method and led the movement in support of the 'untouchables' considered as the lowest rung of the society. Nashik has a tropical climate with high temperatures. So, avoid traveling during hot summers, one can travel here during the cool winter season.
